****** Kenchoji(1) ******

Kenchoji was founded in 1253 by Hojo Tokiyori. The first chief priest was Rankeidoryu who was invited form China. The first Zen temple in Japan. This gate is called Kohukumon and was constructed in 1783.

When you go through the gate, you will see this plaque. This handwriting reads "Kohukusan". The name of Kohukumon came from this plaque.

Left is Sanmon. This gate was reconstructed in 1775 by Bansetsu. Right is a bell made in 1255.
